SCRIPTURE Psalms 69:28 “Let them be blotted out of the book of the living, and not be written with the righteous.”
COMMENTARY David, a man after God’s own heart and full of the Holy Spirit, understood that God could blot people’s names of out of the book of the (spiritually) living, and asks God to do so. David had the indwelling Holy Spirit (1 Samuel 16:13 and Psalm 51:11), and had in all probability read that God could do so in the writings of Moses as in Exodus 32:32. This is also consistent with the veiled warnings of God in Revelation 3:5 and Revelation 22:19. God’s warning to believers is consistent: “Be not highminded, but fear; for if God spared not the natural branches [Israel], take heed lest he also spare not thee” (Romans 11:20b–21). As noted above, God does not change (Malachi 3:6). He certainly is not going to change His criteria for entrance into His kingdom because of the doctrines of Reformed Theology or the modern church.
