Jeremiah 15:6

SCRIPTURE Jeremiah 15:6 “Thou hast forsaken me, saith the Lord, thou art gone backward: therefore will I stretch out my hand against thee, and destroy thee; I am weary with repenting.”

COMMENTARY These people are said to have “forsaken” (Hebrew natash) God meaning “left” God.  The result?  God will destroy them.  God was weary with their repenting which was not done earnestly.  Verses like these and those in Ezekiel although specific to a context, do not reflect a change in who God is. Stated differently the God of the Old Testament, who was weary with people who said they were repenting but truly did not, is now okay in the New Testament with people who say they are repenting but truly have not. In Scripture, God has always had limits on how long He will tolerate sinful men; that is men committed to disobedience.
