SCRIPTURE 1 Corinthians 10:11–12 “Now all these things happened unto them for examples: and they are written for our admonition, upon whom the ends of the world are come.  Wherefore let him that thinketh he standeth take heed lest he fall.”  

COMMENTARY Explains by the example of the Jews in the wilderness that believers can fall (i.e., lose their salvation), as we have explained above.  Here fall is Greek piptō and means to fall from a state of uprightness. Paul’s message here confirms that, contrary to what many teach, God’s rules, like God Himself, do not change.  The concept that enduring faith demonstrated through obedience is somehow not required is errant. God did not turn from demanding strict obedience (as evidence of faith) in the Old Testament to a God of a mushy (no matter what) love in the New Testament.  The Book of Revelation and Jesus’ explanations of His judgments at His return demonstrate this quite clearly.
